Give Blood at Fountainhead College
Fountainhead College will host a Medic Blood Drive on Thursday, November 10, from 10:00 to 5:00 in the Fountainhead Auditorium.
Giving blood supports the well-being of our community and provides a safe and economical blood supply for people in need. Giving blood takes only 15 minutes and helps those in need. Giving one donation a year also exempts you and your dependents from paying blood processing fees if you need a blood transfusion.
Time slots are available from 10:30 – 4:45 pm. Call now or drop by Fountainhead College's lobby to sign up.
Phone: 865-688-9422
The blood drive is co-sponsored by Fountainhead's Health Information Management program.
What Is Blood Used For?
- Whole blood donations are divided into components. So, one donation can help up to 3 people.
- Transfusions - primarily red cells - are given to replace blood lost during surgery, from trauma or from internal bleeding from conditions such as aneurysms or ulcers.
- Blood components such as platelets are used to treat cancer patients debilitated by chemotherapy of their ability to replace their own blood cells.
- Components such as frozen plasma are used to treat patients with clotting deficiencies.
- So far, no substitute for any components of human blood has been licensed for use in the United States.
