Privacy vs. the march of technology

garbage_cansHow important is privacy to you?

Wireless has a way of getting around. And criminals have a way of getting around security mechanisms to profit from the information contained on RFID Tags.

Do you refuel at Exxon? Exxon uses "SpeedPass," a convenient way to pay for gas using just a swipe of your wrist. But convenience brings vulnerabilities.

New campus opens doors to the future

New campus opens doors to the future

The new Fountainhead College of Technology campus opened its doors for business last week at its new location in west Knoxville near Interstate 40/75 and Pellissippi Parkway. Over 200 students are currently enrolled in the college's eight technology-focused programs.

The new campus is spacious and modern with larger classrooms and labs, a larger library resource center and student lounge.

The school has a dedicated Testing Center, where students and non-students can test for leading technology certifications, many of which are embedded into the curriculums. Fountainhead College is a CompTIA Authorized Academy Partner, as well as an authorized Pearson Vue and Prometric Test Center.

"This is a watershed moment in the history of Fountainhead College," said Richard Rackley, the school CEO. "We are bringing our students closer to where the tech-focused jobs are, and we are now able to bring our considerable expertise in IT, cybersecurity and health information directly into Knoxville's technology community. Moving our campus west couldn't come at a better time, given the growth and need for a skilled and tech savvy workforce."

NIST updates, expands glossary of security terms

The NIST Glossary of Key Information Security terms is a reference resource. The key points mentioned in the article relate to its usefulness in examining CNSS and NIST documents. The benefit for students and professionals in Network Security and Information Assurance is when the NIST Glossary is used in conjunction with the NIST NICE Framework.

NIST Updates, Expands Glossary of Security Terms

By William Jackson Dec 11, 2012

The National Institute of Standards and Technology is updating its Glossary of Key Information Security terms, and has released a draft of the latest revision(PDF) of Interagency Report 7298.

The glossary contains more than 200 pages of definitions, from “Access” (the ability to make use of any information system resource) to “Zone of Control” (the three-dimensional space surrounding equipment that processes classified and/or sensitive information). It defines the responsibilities of the chief information officer and describes the Security Content Automation Protocol (SCAP) as well as its specifications and languages.

We Are Moving!

Fountainhead College Moving Campus to West Knoxville

Richard Rackley, CEO of Fountainhead College of Technology, has announced that the college will move its campus west to a site in Knoxville's technology corridor, near Interstate 40/75 and Pellissippi Parkway.

After nearly 30 years of holding classes at their Tazewell Pike campus, the college will begin its spring term on January 7 in a 30,000 square foot building formerly occupied by Knoxville's ITT Technical Institute at 10208 Technology Drive.

This move reflects growth for Fountainhead College and the local technology industry, and the institution's mission of connecting students and graduates with employers, many of whom are located in west Knoxville.

The new campus is situated in the epicenter of a technology corridor which is home to over 500 technology companies and 75,000 college and university students. An Open House will be announced early spring.
