COM402 Ethics in the IT Industry

3 Semester Credit Hours

The legal, social, and ethical issues that students face entering the technology industry are presented.  Professional conduct, social responsibility, and rigorous standards for software development and reliability are stressed. Issues such as liability, intellectual property, privacy, security, and Internet crime are investigated.  Code of Ethics for Professional Technology Organizations such as ACM, AITP and PMI are referenced. Labs consist of assigned practice, projects and/or case studies relating to topics covered. Course contains 2 semester credit hours (30 clock hours) of lecture and 1 semester credit hour (30 clock hours) of laboratory work. Prerequisites: BC204, E103
