CS301 Communications, AM and FM Techniques

3 Semester Credit Hours

The techniques of transmitting and receiving signals are presented in this course. Topics include amplitude modulation (AM), AM transmitters, AM receivers, single-side band communications, frequency modulation (FM), FM transmitters, FM receivers and digital communications. Students should also obtain a basic understanding of signal delivery techniques. Troubleshooting techniques are addressed. Lab projects are assigned to enhance understanding of AM and FM transmission and reception. A receiver kit is assembled to help in understanding of alignment and troubleshooting techniques. Course contains 2 semester credit hours (30 clock hours) of lecture and 1 semester credit hour (30 clock hours) of laboratory work. Prerequisite: BE203
