E103 English Composition

4 Semester Credit Hours

This course is intended to aid students in becoming more effective and proficient writers.  Skills in essay based writing utilizing several rhetorical writing modes will be developed.  Elements that expand essay writing skills and constitute rhetorical writing patterns will be explored.  Among rhetorical patterns introduced are description, narration, compare/contrast, classification/division and definition.  APA documentation will be practiced.  Emphasis will be placed on the use of proper grammar, punctuation, mechanics and spelling.  A library orientation project is also required. Labs consist of assigned practice, projects and/or case studies relating to topics covered. Course contains 3 semester credit hours (45 clock hours) of lecture and 1 semester credit hour (30 clock hours) of laboratory work.
