This course serves as an introduction to medical coding to include ICD-9-CM, CPT and HCPCS and the applicable reference materials. In addition to the overview, students will apply basic coding principles and develop an understanding of classification systems and reference materials. Labs consist of assigned practice and projects relating to topics covered. Course contains 2 semester hours (30 clock hours) of lecture and 1 semester credit hour (30 clock hours) of laboratory work.
