RP103 Radiation Detection Instrumentation

5 Semester Credit Hours

This course teaches the basic components, theory of radiation detection, and theory of operation of radiation survey and contamination monitoring instrumentation common in the nuclear industry. Laboratory work includes operational checks and use of these instruments.

Prereq: RP101 Radiological Fundamentals I and RP102 Radiological Fundamentals II. Course contains 4 semester credit hours (60 clock hours) of lecture and 1 semester credit hour (30 clock hours) of laboratory work. This course supports the Radiological Protection Technology program by providing the student an understanding of how radiological instrumentation operates. This is particularly advantageous in understanding the limitations of instrument use in the field and recognizing when instrumentation malfunctions to ensure personnel safety.
