5 Semester Credit Hours
This course teaches the different methods used to monitor radiation and contamination levels. Also covers methods of monitoring to ensure personnel and environmental safety. This course includes the topics of Dosimetry, Environmental Monitoring, Contamination Control, Radiological Source Control, Counting Errors and Statistics, Counting Room Equipment, and a Counting Room Lab. Prereq: RP101 Radiological Fundamentals I and RP102 Radiological Fundamentals II. Course contains 4 semester credit hours (60 clock hours) of lecture and 1 semester credit hour (30 clock hours) of laboratory work. This course supports the Radiological Protection Technology program by providing the student knowledge of the types of equipment used to monitor radiological conditions and methods employed to measure the amount of radioactivity present.
