A Medical Coding Success Story

TIffany-Selfie-2Living the Dream

Tiffany Miller was a waitress and a single mom before enrolling at Fountainhead. Having to rely on her daily tips to pay her bills, she decided to seek out a career path that would provide stability for her and her son. And so she chose to enroll in the Associate of Occupational Science program in Health Information Management as her stepping stone.

When she came to visit Fountainhead, she was impressed to learn how many related work environments she would be eligible to enter given the skills she would acquire in this degree program. She also wanted to work with records rather than patients. The great thing about Fountainhead, said Tiffany, was that her instructors presented her with everything she needed to know, step by step, in order to succeed in her coursework - and also sit for the Certified Professional Coder certification, which is provided to all students.

Tiffany worked with the Career Services department before graduating in Spring 2013, and within two months, she had secured a great job in her field with one of East Tennessee’s largest health employers, TeamHealth, where she now works as a medical coder. After six months of building strong relationships with her company, she was given the option to work from home.

Today she has time to spend with her son in the afternoons when school lets out, and she can adjust her work schedule as needed to focus on her genuine priorities, such as coaching her son’s soccer team. She said that she has all the benefits of being a stay-at-home mom, except that she enjoys a regular paycheck in a stable career.
