All computers have an operating system to communicate with users and devices. The operating systems presented include: The Microsoft DOS & Windows family, the Macintosh family, and the UNIX family. This course gives the student a firm understanding of how various operating systems work and are used. Skills needed to troubleshoot, repair, and service personal computers will be covered. Students will learn about IDE, SCSI, RAM, processors, graphics cards, ports, CDROM, DVDROM, electrostatic discharge, and external peripherals. Course contains 3 semester credit hours (45 clock hours) of lecture and 1 semester credit hour (30 clock hours) of laboratory work.
