OS304 Linux Integration

3 Semester Credit Hours

After installing SUSE LINUX Enterprise Server, students will learn to configure a DNS server, use DHCP to manage networks, manage OpenLDAP, configure a mail server, use OpenSLP, and monitor network traffic.  At the end of classroom instruction, students will be challenged (and should be able) to perform various scenarios based on business requirements similar to those in a production environment. Labs consist of assigned practice, projects and/or case studies relating to topics covered. Course contains 2 semester credit hours (30 clock hours) of lecture and 1 semester credit hour (30 clock hours) of laboratory work. Prerequisite: OS303

OS305 Linux Security

3 Semester Credit Hours

Students will learn to create a security concept, configure server host security, configure and manage AppArmor, basics and practical application of cryptography, implement network security, design a general firewall, understand and setup packet filtering, configure and manage application-level gateways, configure virtual private networks (VPNs), and configure intrusion detection and incident response actions. At the end of classroom instruction, students will be challenged (and should be able) to perform various scenarios based on business requirements similar to those in a production environment. Labs consist of assigned practice, projects and/or case studies relating to topics covered. This course will focus on current events and diversity and their relationship to business and technology. Emphasis will be placed on group discussions and team research. Exercises may include viewing art, movies and television; listening to music; and readings from various diverse cultures. This course addresses the skills needed to secure new positions in technical areas. Exercises and role-plays assist participants in understanding relationships and attitudes that influence the workplace. Topics include resume writing, employer communications, effective interviewing skills, evaluation and development of attitudes and goals. Labs consist of assigned practice, projects and case studies relating to topics covered. Course contains 2 semester hours (30 clock hours) of lecture and 1 semester credit hour (30 clock hours) of laboratory work.

PJ202 Project Management

3 semester credit hours

The discipline of organizing and managing the resources, time, money and scope of project is known as project management.  Students will enhance their management skills by learning to demonstrate effective goal setting strategies, to manage project schedules and to complete the project management process.  Software tools such as Microsoft Project® may be used to augment building professional charts and diagrams, presenting information in various formats, controlling finances through costing and monitoring project progress.  Labs consist of assigned practice, projects and/or case studies relating to topics covered. Course contains 2 semester credit hours (30 clock hours) of lecture and 1 semester credit hour (30 clock hours) of laboratory work.

PM205 Introduction to Programming

3 Semester Credit Hours

This course provides students with an introduction to the fundamental concepts of program design using JavaScript. Topics of study include: procedural and object-oriented programming, graphical user interfaces, modular design, sorting, and recursion. Students are encouraged to think in terms of the logical steps needed to solve a problem, which will build skills that can be taken to any programming language in the future. Labs consist of assigned practice, projects and/or case studies relating to topics covered. VS301 Video Electronics and Systems

3 Semester Credit Hours

Video technology has affected the world tremendously. Topics include the video signal, video cameras, transmitting video and receiving video. To learn troubleshooting techniques, students evaluate and classify video system problems in receivers, video recorders and monitors.  Lab projects are assigned to enhance understanding of video systems. Course contains 30 clock hours of lecture (2 semester credit hours) and 30 clock hours of lab (1 semester credit hour). Prerequisite: CS301

WS201 Website Design

3 semester credit hours

As workers in the information industry, graduates may be required to produce or troubleshoot Websites and/or provide interface to different classifications of data. HTML and XML coding are taught using text editors. Website design elements such as proper use of color, layout techniques and active element placement presented in this course will help prepare the student for these possibilities. Labs consist of assigned practice, projects, and/or case studies relating to topics covered.  Course contains 2 semester credit hours (30 clock hours) of lecture and 1 semester credit hour (30 clock hours) of laboratory work.
